  We enrolled our 2-year-old son at Kidworks on a Wednesday (11/13/13). He attended Wednesday and Thursday (11/14/13). We were called Thursday afternoon saying that Friday (11/15/13) would be our son's last day. The reason? They said his medical condition was "too complicated." He has a history of febrile seizures, which is not uncommon in young children (up to 5% of children have febrile seizures). When we offered to train the staff on febrile seizures, the director declined the offer and cited mild allergies and a requirement of using sunscreen as other medical factors that contributed to their decision. We asked if there were other factors involved in this decision and the director said there was not. My complaint with this daycare is this: 1) They require 2 weeks notice for you to remove your child, but they only gave us one day of notice (both my wife and I work full-time as clinicians in healthcare, so this was a HUGE problem and such a policy is rather hypocritical); 2) If they do not accept children with a history of febrile seizures, they should have told us this on Wednesday before he was enrolled - we were very open about his medical status; 3) The decision was made by the owner and director without speaking with us, rather we were simply told he could not return; 4) When we asked them to use sunscreen and/or bugspray (we do live in Florida, after all!), the director refused. There are a lot of really good daycares in Gainesville. This is not one of them. A very disappointed and concerned parent.
